Bill Hancock was elected to a 2-year term as Vice President for the Society of Mining Engineers Foundation (SMEF), at the SME Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, February 16-18, 2015. Hancock will be responsible for supporting the SMEF President, executive committee, Trustees and staff in developing and successfully executing fundraising programs necessary to fully fund SME’s education needs.

SMEF’s mission is to be SME’s and community’s funding arm for professional development, education and outreach. While SMEF is a legal entity separate from SME, its critical role is to raise sufficient funding for SME’s important professional development and educational programs. Presently SMEF funds MEC (Minerals Education Coalition), PE, ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), several scholarships, Miners Give Back, and the new Educational Sustainability (PhD Fellowships and Career Grants) programs. Expectations are that future programs will be developed for which fundraising must be formulated and implemented.
